- ExpertFlyer offers two ways to view a seat map: directly through the Seat Map feature, or inline while browsing Flight Availability.

Overview
ExpertFlyer's Seat Map feature shows you the flight's cabin layout, with open or occupied seats, and lets you set an alert for when a specific seat becomes available.
Two Ways to Access the Seat Map
Option 1: Seat Map tool
- Click Seat Maps in the left navigation menu
- Enter the airline, flight number, and travel date
- Click search to load the cabin layout
Option 2: Inline from Flight Availability
- Run a search in Flight Availability
- Locate your flight in the results table
- Click the Seat Map button in the Action column for that flight row

Detailed View vs Standard View
The Standard View shows a simplified cabin layout, quick to scan when you just need to know whether open seats are available. Available on all plans.
The Detailed View breaks down each seat with additional attributes, such as seat type, pitch, location relative to exits, and any known limitations (e.g., limited recline, missing window). When looking for a specific seat, Detailed View gives you everything you need to make the call. Available on Elite and Premium plans.

Seat Statuses
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Available | The seat is open and available to book through the airline |
| Occupied | A passenger has already chosen this seat |
| Blocked | The airline is holding this seat for crew use, operational purposes, or a specific fare class. Blocked seats often release 24 to 72 hours before departure |
Keep in mind that seeing an unassigned seat does not guarantee a fare is open; remember that open seats and available inventory are not the same thing.
Setting up a Seat Alert
If the seat you want is occupied or blocked, you can set a Seat Alert. ExpertFlyer will monitor it and notify you when it becomes available.

How to set up a Seat Alert:
- Open the seat map for your flight
- Click on the seat you want to monitor. Occupied and blocked seats can both be selected for alert purposes.
- Confirm your selection.
- Click Create Alert to save.
Additional options when setting up your Seat Alert:

| SMS notification | Add a phone number to receive a text message when the seat opens |
| I can reserve blocked seats | Check this if the airline allows you to select a currently blocked seat type |
| Seats to look for | Monitor by category instead of a specific seat number: Any Seat, Any Aisle, Any Window, Any Exit Row, or Any 2 Seats Together. Available to select when every seat in the category is occupied. |
