Frequently Asked Questions About Seat Maps
How accurate are the airline seat maps?
Our seat maps are highly accurate. We source our data directly from Global Distribution Systems (GDS) the same sophisticated systems used by travel agents (such as Sabre, Amadeus, and Travelport). What you see is a real-time reflection of the airline's GDS inventory.
Why do the seat maps sometimes differ from what I see on the airline's website?
ExpertFlyer is a sophisticated travel intelligence platform, not a direct booking engine. Because we source data from GDS, some airlines' newer distribution policies (like NDC or direct-only selling) might cause certain seats or fare classes to be withheld from GDS systems.
For example:
- United Airlines often withholds discounted fare classes (like W, T, and K) from GDS.
- British Airways NDC fares are typically not visible in GDS.
- Delta Air Lines does not publish award inventory to GDS at all.
If you see fewer seats or zeros in a fare class on ExpertFlyer compared to the airline's own website, this airline distribution policy is the most likely reason.
How do I find out if my flight has open seats?
It is simple: enter your airline, flight number, and date into our Flight Availability search tool or Seat Map tool. We will instantly query the airline's inventory and return the visual layout showing exactly which seats are open.
