How to check Flight Availability on ExpertFlyer
Guide
Quick Summary (TL;DR)
- Flight Availability shows fare-class inventory, not just whether a price exists. You can see which specific booking buckets are open on a route.
- To search, you need a departing airport, arriving airport, and departure date. Airline, fare class, and connection type are optional filters.
- Results show each flight on the route with availability indicators for every fare class code.
- Availability is displayed as fare class code and amount. (e.g., 7J = at least 7 seats in J fare bucket.)
- Flight Availability and Awards & Upgrades are different tools. Flight Availability shows all published fare classes; Awards & Upgrades specifically searches for hidden award and upgrade inventory.
- You can open the seat map directly from the Action column in any Flight Availability result row.
- If your desired class has no availability, set a Flight Alert from the results to be notified when inventory opens.
Overview
ExpertFlyer Flight Availability shows the fare-class booking inventory for every flight on a route, so you can see exactly which booking buckets are open before you book, upgrade, or rebook. Unlike booking sites that show you prices, ExpertFlyer shows you the underlying inventory buckets airlines use to control seat allocation.
What Flight Availability shows
Booking sites show prices, but ExpertFlyer shows the fare-class inventory behind those prices, the actual booking buckets the airline controls. Each fare class code represents a distinct inventory bucket. When a bucket closes, the fare associated with it becomes unavailable, even if seats are still physically open on the plane.
How to run a search
Opening Flight Availability
- Click Flight Availability in the left navigation menu.
- Enter your departing airport and arriving airport.
- Enter your departure date and departure time.
- Optionally, filter by airline, alliance, or specific fare class codes.
- Click Search.

| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Departing Airport | The airport you are flying from |
| Arriving Airport | The airport you are flying to |
| Depart Date | The date you want to search |
| Return Date | Optional: The earliest departure time to include in results |
| Airline | Optional: limit results to a specific airline or alliance |
| Only Show Class(es) | Optional: filter results to show only specific fare class codes |
| Connection Preference | Optional: filter for nonstop or connecting flights |
Reading your results
Each row in the results table represents a single flight on the route. Scanning across the columns gives you a complete picture of that flight's schedule, equipment, and available inventory by fare class.

| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Flight | Marketing airline and flight number |
| Stops | Number of stops on that flight |
| Depart/Arrive | Departure and arrival airports and times |
| Aircraft | Aircraft type currently assigned to that flight |
| Frequency Reliability | Days of the week the flight operates, plus on-time percentage and average delay |
| Class Availability | The fare class code with number of seats available. |
| Action | Create a Flight Alert, view Flight Details, or open the Seat Map |
Using the Action column
Each result row includes an Action column with three tools that let you dig deeper into a flight or take immediate action on the inventory you find.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Create Alert | Set a Flight Alert to be notified when inventory opens or changes for this specific flight and class |
| Flight Details | View scheduled departure and arrival times, aircraft details, and on-time performance history for the flight |
| Seat Map | Open the current cabin layout to see occupied, blocked, and available seats. |
No availability in your class? Set a Flight Alert
When a flight shows no availability in the class you need, do not move on. Seat inventory opens and closes constantly as passengers book, change, and cancel.
How to set a Flight Alert from results:
- Locate the flight you want in the results table.
- Click the Create Alert button in the Action column.
- A pop-up will appear pre-populated with the flight details and class code.
- Adjust the fare class or number of seats if needed.
- Optionally, rename the alert to something recognizable (e.g., 'JFK-LHR C class July 4').
- Click Save. The alert is now active and ExpertFlyer begins monitoring.
